Functional Prototype

Here are photos of a 1/4 scale functional prototype I have built. The pump that I purchased is somewhat underpowered, but pother than that and a few pesky leaks, the fountain works nicely.

Technical Details

This diagram shows the components that will be used in construction of the full scale sculpture.

Renderings

Here are some computer renderings of a proposed, full-sized version of the dolphin fountain. The two animations show versions of the sculpture modeled after a bottlenosed dolphin (left) and a dusky dolphin (right).

Functional Half-Size Model

The third stage in my dolphin fountain project was to create this half-size proof-of-concept model. This sculpture was made from 3/8 in od. copper tube, and aside from a few minor leaks it performed quite nicely.

Preparation

The first stage in my dolphin fountain was to study the musculature of the dolphin. Thanks to D. Ann Pabst (UNC Wilmington) who helped with this stage.
